Stretch & recovery testing is performed to gain a measure of the elasticity of stretch fabrics, and in turn their ability to recover from stretching.

Many fashion garments and textile products today are either made from a knitted fabric, which possess stretch properties because of its construction, or knits, wovens and nonwovens that have elastane incorporated into its composition to offer stretch and recovery properties.

These fabrics and garments undergo regular and continuous use, with stretching forming a large part of that use, so to be able to gauge how well these fabrics stretch, and in turn how effectively they recover, is crucial to determining how we can expect these garments and products to perform efficiently for the consumer.

In this webinar, we will explore the following areas:

  • What is stretch and recovery?
  • Why is it important to perform this test?
  • Standards and test methods (focusing on ISO 20932-1 and ASTM D4964)
  • Testing stretch and recovery (using Titan)

This Back to Basics webinar is perfect for beginner laboratory technicians as well as people working in other areas such as garment technology, fabric manufacturing and those undertaking various textiles qualifications.

Understanding the stretching and recovery properties of textiles products offers a much more rounded understanding of how we determine a products useful lifespan.
