Performance Testing: Wet Abrasion

Abrasion is the term for the degradation of the body of a fabric, from exposure to friction and rubbing. Textiles professionals have been testing fabrics for their abrasive resistance for many years, however testing abrasion under wet conditions remains a relatively unexplored avenue.

Wet abrasion testing provides a valuable assessment of a textile’s resistance to abrasion in a variety of wet conditions; the test can be performed using liquids such as perspiration, motor oil and even sun cream.

There are internationally recognised standards and test methods for dry abrasion, as it is a staple test for any textile as it represents such a common form of exposure for textile product. There is currently no standard for wet abrasion testing, however this is under review with the hopes that one will be available in the near future.

This webinar will look at wet abrasion testing and why it is so beneficial in certain sectors such as the PPE and performance wear sectors, the importance of testing, and how to test in a way that is repeatable and accurate.
